Mangrove Screen

After a trip on a rumbling diesel ferry around the backwaters of India's Kerala state, I found the twisty roots of the mangrove trees appearing more and more in my sketchbooks. Wanting to try it on a larger scale, I started working on this 4' x 6' triptych, using a mixture of acrylic, ink, charcoal, and china marker on masonite board. Since it's quite heavy and would be difficult to hang on a wall, I decided to attach the three boards with hinges and let it free-stand, like a folding Japanese screen.

Apologies for the bad photos; this piece is still in progress and I'll put up more images once I've finished painting all those little flowers. Want one? I'm happy to do these on commission; contact me at info [at] jayperryworks.com.
